After his mother dies suddenly, twelve year old Bastian escapes into the pages of a mysterious, ornately-bound book, that takes him into the fantastic world of Fantasia. Bastian's alter ego, Atreyu, encounters the Dark Princess and her shape-shifter, a werewolf sent into Bastian's world to stop the boy from reading. As Atreyu battles Dark Forces in Fantasia, Bastian battles a demonic teacher in his own school. The second story finds Atreyu struggling with the mystery of the Southern Oracle in order to save Fantasia's ailing Childlike Empress. Reading further, Bastian discovers parallels between real world secrets and the challenges of Fantasia. Is there no line between fact and fiction? Later, when the Dark Princess sends agents into the real world to steal the book, Atreyu must come to Bastian's aid
