Summary
These videos show two complete live sessions (with Dr. Sue Johnson as the therapist) that were conducted at Externships in Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy in 2008/2009. These couples had never met with Dr. Johnson before these sessions and knew that they were being observed and had been recommended for these consultations by their EFT therapists. In both cases, the partners had read Hold Me Tight: Seven Conversations for a Lifetime of Love at the beginning of therapy and succeeded in de-escalating their negative dance of demand/withdraw (for more information on this book go to www.holdmetight.net). The couples are now entering Stage II where the therapist helps partners to reach for each other and create positive bonding events. The first task is to focus on engaging the more withdrawn partner (John in Couple 1 and Juli in Couple 2). "I was very privileged to work with these two couples and want to acknowledge their courage in opening up to me the way they did and giving me permission to use these sessions as training topics." - Sue Johnson
