Summary
Widowhood is a curse in India, which almost inevitably leads to social marginalization and the diminished economic standing of women. Widows of all ages are cast out from their families and communities, often forced to find shelter in temples, earning their keep by praying and chanting, or facing death on the streets alone. These are the widows' bitter, sad stories of the harsh reality of their existence, set in the rapidly changing India of today
