Summary
In the summer of 1936, rival expeditions trek through China. One group aims to track and kill a giant panda. The other, headed by an unexpected leader, seeks to protect pandas, an effort that marks the start of the world's fascination with giant pandas. The films tells the true story of Ruth Harkness, a society woman who leaves New York and continues the pioneering work of her late husband. Central to the story are the pandas, filmed in China as they eat and cavort. Watching them is an event as magnificent as it is rare. Only 1,000 giant pandas exist in the wild today
